An App That Works—But Doesn’t Work With Us

As a barista at Academic Coffee, I use Vesta, a food service distributor app, to place wholesale orders for our daily essentials—milk, dairy alternatives, specialty ingredients, and more. While the app gets the job done, one major usability issue became apparent through repeated use: there's no way to save or quickly access frequently ordered items.

This case study explores how a small addition to Vesta's interface—a "Favorites" feature—could dramatically improve usability, streamline daily workflows, and ultimately boost satisfaction for the B2B customers who rely on the platform every day.

Solving for the Everyday Friction

Vesta's current ordering system creates friction where speed and accuracy matter most.

Currently, the only ways to add products to an order are through a manual search or by entering specific numeric item codes—codes we’ve had to write down and laminate just to speed up the process. This workaround highlights a major gap in Vesta’s user experience for recurring B2B customers who rely on efficiency to keep operations running smoothly.

The constant back-and-forth between this sheet and our inventory not only slows us down, but also increases cognitive load and the likelihood of mistakes.

As an employee, I want a faster, more intuitive way to add frequently ordered items without needing to memorize or reference external materials. Vesta’s B2B users need tools that adapt to dynamic inventory needs—not just static reorders—to help them move quickly, reduce friction, and stay loyal to the platform. Without this, there's a risk of inefficiency, user frustration, and ultimately, customer churn.

From Workaround to Built-In Workflow

By introducing a "Favorites" list feature, Vesta could empower users to build a custom library of their most frequently ordered items. This would streamline order placement, reduce human error, and better serve B2B customers with dynamic inventory needs—strengthening customer loyalty and improving retention.
